Boy, did it rain!

Here is Jimmy. I told him I'd put this on my blog. Jimmy does our electrical work. He put the FANS in... Makes the loft livable!!! He has done a lot of work for us and will be doing the electricial stuff for the generator. Thanks, Jimmy!!!

The landscaper did a great job... and the heavy rain really watered the plants!

The rain was so heavy. And, we had hail. This picture shows the rain/hail.... It was incredible. We had to have had over an inch of rain and in a very short period of time!!

More hail... on the other side of the deck where I have the herbs.
The rain caused the electricity to go off an on last night.... we lost power for a short time. There were areas up here that were out today.

We did lose both TV and Internet service... boy, that really effected us! Didn't realize how much we have the TV on and I check the email. Well, we did survive... and got service back late this afternoon. We might get more rain tonight and tomorrow is to be cooler. It wasn't as humid today but we were in the upper 80's. Tomorrow it's to be in the 70's.

The stream was quite noisy this morning... and really full. As we went to breakfast there was a lot of evidence of heavy rains... What a way to end May. Posted by Picasa

Rain Rain Rain

This is really weird. It’s 8 PM and we are sitting in the living room with so much rain coming down. It was so hot today….. In the upper 80’s. We went to breakfast this morning and then home… and while B read the paper I did a load of laundry. We did some things around the house and then had lunch - hamburger and hot dog.
So, it was soooooo hot…. I checked my email and then decided to look at a video. So I went into the second bedroom and watched a video from Netflex… good. So, the landscapers show up… and start to work… and are finishing taking out dead stuff and start putting in new plants and then the mulch and it LOOKS GOOD!!!! OK, I’m looking at my video and then I hear….. Jimmy…. The electrician and he is here to work on the generator… so they do their thing and the generator is in place and he will come back after the propane people come to do their thing.
We were looking at the local news… and they were calling for thunderstorms. At first, they were not around here. Then, around 7 they said over Scranton. And then it got darker and darker… and we had lightning and then thunder and then RAIN… I mean really heavy. I shut some sliding doors as the rain was making the carpet wet. We lost electricity several times… we did turn off the computers. I’m on the laptop and it’s still thundering… it’s 8:30 PM. We really did need the rain…. The TV just went off again… and the thunder is still thundering. I guess this is why we are getting the generator installede. Jimmy was here today to plan how to do the installation. Also, our landscaper was here and planted plants and mulched. Was really a productive day!!!!
So now, here it is at 8:30PM… we had dinner… sausage and peppers from Sunday. Was really good and B really liked it… (that’s nice!!!) B is reading the USA Today and I’m on the laptop… WE ARE SO LUCKY!!!!!

A snake... ugh!

I was outside just a bit ago to take some pictures. As I walked around to the back, I saw something in the wall of the flower bed... it looked like a hose, which was dumb cause it couldn't be. Then I realized that it was a SNAKE and it had a FROG in it's mouth and was pulling it back into the wall......

So, I'm posting that picture second so if you don't want to see it, don't scroll down.

The first picture is on the side of the house. This is the small deck off the master bedroom. It's in the shade most of the day... we get the sun in the afternoon. It's a nice place to sit as it overlooks the side woods.

Remember, don't scroll down if you don't want to see the snake!!!

Memorial Day Weekend Fun

With Memorial Day the “official” start of summer, we are really experiencing summer temperatures. It went from cool daytime temperatures to mid/upper 80’s by Sunday, when we had the gang over for a cook out. Ronnie, B’s brother, had just retired - so we turned it into a retirement party too. Weather was great and everyone had fun. We had bought a horseshoe game that the guys really enjoyed - set it up on the septic hill and they had several competitions. Us ladies sat around and talked and watched the two kids enjoy the peddle car. Hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers, salads and snackies filled everyone up - but we still found room for the cake.
On Monday, the real Memorial Day, we had neighbors over for a cook out…. And had such an enjoyable time. In all a very relaxing weekend.
It’s hot again today. We are so glad the ceiling fans are up… I’m in the loft and with the fan going, and the windows open, it’s not too hot. By Thursday things are supposed to cool off with highs only in the 70’s. Boy, glad I don’t have to deal with the kids on the playground today!

I really like the kitchen appliances. This is the new refrigerator knook with the new storage space... A great place for my mixer and who knows what else???
It was a rainy day off and on... and then the sun came out around 4 PM. I slept a lot today... the darn cold is still doing it's thing. B went out and washed off the cars... the pollen is still doing it's "thing" - not as bad as South Jersey!

Cool today - in the mid 60's... should warm up this week.

It was nice to know I don't have to do anything to prepare for work tomorrow.... Retirement is a good thing!!! Posted by Picasa

It was a good day

  1. We caught the mouse!!! He/she ate the cheese from the first trap in the kitchen - the second trap in the breakfast area got em.
  2. Went to the boat and added some line after installing two cleats. Also added to fenders as we had lost one and felt we needed more.
  3. Got work done in the den
  4. The landscaper came and pulled out our dead shrubs in the front… new ones will be the next thing
  5. It finally stopped raining!

A Mouse in the House

It was a really nice day. The sun was out in the morning and B had arranged to have the boat put into the water. This is really exciting because we are now here all the time and can enjoy the boat during the week when the lake is relatively empty. Weekends get busy and we tend not to go out as we don’t want to fight the crowd. I went with him, and brought the car back home so I could continue to DUST… When he called I drove down to the dock - they were all tied up - the Captain did good!!!

After a trip to WalMart to buy some fenders for the boat (unsuccessful) and lunch at Wendy’s, we came home to darkening skies. Rain hit around 3:00 and it’s still gloomy. After doing what we needed to do - I started dinner. A recipe from long ago with beef cubes and paprika.. Something different. So I’m in the kitchen, a load of laundry is in the washer (close to the kitchen) and I hear a noise I attribute to the washer. I’m browning the onions and such having finished with the beef and A MOUSE RUNS OUT FROM UNDER THE STOVE ACROSS THE KITCHEN FLOOR!!! I screeched… let out a yell so loud B came a running. Don’t know where the mouse went, but he took off as scared of me as I was of him. (I know, it’s a mouse already - but it startled me) Don’t know where he/she came from. We haven’t had any mouse in the house - did have them in the garage. With all the people trapsing in and out of the house during the work on the bathroom and kitchen it’s possible that one (HOPE ONLY ONE) got in. After dinner (which was, by the way, very good) we set a trap. We shall see if we catch the mouse.

More on the mouse later… hopefully a report that we “got em”.

Inside work is DONE!

Well the rain has stopped for the time being and the sun is out. It’s been gloomy the past several days with lots of rain. I’ve been sick with a cold and spent most of Monday and Tuesday sleeping… better today.

The kitchen is DONE!!! Clark and Fred came to complete the few things left - I slept through the work. The kitchen does look great. Then Jimmy came in the afternoon and put up some lights for us which look really great!! And, for the inside of the house, that’s it for the time being!! Now all I have to do is clean… I started today but kinda pooped out - There is always tomorrow!

The boat goes in the water tomorrow - another sure sign summer is almost here.

This morning Clark and Fred started on the closet. The first picture shows what they completed yesterday. The second picture is the start of the closet - the old refrigerator is shown. The new one is around the corner on the right.

It’s really a beautiful day! Upper 60’s with sun. Tomorrow we are to get some much needed rain. Posted by Picasa

Kitchen renovations

This picture shows the kitchen "ready" for the new appliances.

Here is the stove, ready to go in place

The stove is a smooth top... I had that on the one that was here and really liked it. This stove also has a convection oven and warming drawer. I made meatloaf Sunday and it cooked faster - have to do some baking soon. I spent a lot of time researching and looking at all the choices and got what I felt I needed/wanted. The dish washer works great and I got a new sink/faucet and garbage disposal that I really like!
Everything is in place but the refrigerator. We knew it would be a problem as the space where the old side by side was too small for what we wanted. What we hoped was that taking the sheet rock off would enlarge the area enough. However, in reading the installation info yesterday, B realized that the two inches on each side needed for air circulation was not going happen if the space wasn‘t made bigger. So, today (as shown here right before he started) Clark took down the wall (rather quickly so it wasn't a major thing) and is now putting a wall up that gives us the room we need. I'll still have a small space next to the refrigerator that we will put some shelves in. Limited storage - but as long as the refrigerator goes in, I'm fine with that.
I now get to clean the house again... after they get done which probably won't be today! Posted by Picasa
