The Library

This is a picture of the back area - as you can see, it is a catch-all. I've already moved much of the clutter. That's my mom's desk in the back.

And here we are "during" I used that wonderful blue tape to make cutting the paint in easier. Then B rolled the walls.
Ths is AFTER. The book cases look quite good there and the light from the windows makes the place bright. I love the two chairs and their brown pillows. I have to do something about the stuff by the window. Perhaps a TV stand for the TV. The computer is on a computer table but the printer doesn't look right. Have to start looking. Also, need to get rid of the file cabinet which is empty.
A great place to relax, read a book, look at tv or just watch the snow out the windows!!!

January thoughts

Hard to believe January is almost over! Right now, Monday at 9 AM, it is snowing – but not much. We have gotten dustings of snow but not more than an inch or so at any time. Global Warming!!!!

I realize it has been a while since I posted – there really isn’t that much “new” to say. Perhaps I’ll start posting dinner menus and recipes… might be fun to do.

Our January project was to fix up an area on the lower level. We have a very large family room area downstairs where we have a TV, sofa, chairs and also a propane heater (looks kinda like a Franklin Stove). This area extends to the back of the house and around the wall – making it L shaped. The back part has a sliding glass door and windows looking out onto the patio and further down the slope to the stream. The back part was a catch all for STUFF. I wanted to paint it and then make it into a “library” with book shelves (from other parts of the house) and some chairs. The paint is a light yellow and brightens the area up without being “too much”. I did the cutting in on the painting and B did the rolling. I think it turned out very well! We then moved the book cases – two were already down stairs next to the TV so that wasn’t too bad. The third was up in the loft and that was somewhat difficult. I moved the books which really wasn’t bad. Then I put them on the shelves, weeding some out. Looked good! During all this we were at Sam’s Club and saw two yellowish chairs that would be just perfect in that area. So we got them and they do look great! A TV was moved down and the computer we had down there set up and the place really is cozy! I’ll be posting pictures shortly (have the during, need the after).

All in all a good month… we really don’t miss the snow.

New Year thoughts

Here it is, the New Year… or maybe it’s May!! It’s really warm out. I’m looking at TV and the current temperature is 57.. WOW! Rain today and quite mild.

Some how or other, New Years makes one (at least me) start to CLEAN!! I’ve been cleaning out things, putting things away and going through magazines. And, I was reading my Martha Stewart magazine… that woman has to get a LIFE!!! In the December issue, the magazine shows you how to make all these incredible things – homemade gifts, wrapping gifts with bows and so on. I’m retired, and I don’t have the time to do this! So I’m thinking, GET A GRIP, GIRL, this is ridiculous.

I find it interesting that many magazines tend to imply that if we don’t meet their standard we are failures… well that’s a lot of BULL… I am not Ms. Clean!!! But, my house is much better now that I’m retired. Why???? Well, I HAVE THE TIME. And so, that doesn’t mean I’m a better person, it just means that I have more time. I guess it upsets me that magazines and “expectations” say that our homes should be perfect. Mine isn’t and I just want to be sure that you all know it!!!

Global warming aside, it is really warm here. Makes me thing Joanne could have played golf here.. and Sheila, it really is warm here, too.

Well, it was a nice day… cleaning got done, we went to breakfast and we have no pressing things to do tomorrow!!! Makes us grateful!!
