Leap day snow

Yep it's snowing. The snow started about 40 minutes ago and caused me to cancel my hairdresser appointment as the car was covered and I hate to drive in the snow when I don't have to!

I'm in the living room with a cup of coffee watching the snow fall the forecast indicates there will also be sleet and rain. I'm reading a good book " Knockdown" by Sarah Graves. This is a series about a woman who solves mysteries and lives in a big old house in Maine and does projects around the house. Interesting stories and it's a good day to read a bit!

We got snow

Woke to 3 inches of snow and 36 degrees. What a surprise. Our local school is closed. Should melt soon. Honey really enjoyed her morning play in the snow.

February Thoughts

It's snowing - big heavy flakes falling straight down that makes the view look like a snow globe you tipped upside down.Very pretty. The storm coming up from the South was to miss us - so we took a quick trip to Sears and Sams Club. Its about a 30 mile trip and when we left the temperatures were in the upper 30s. I we left Sears there was a snow squall - heavy flakes blowing every which way. We remarked about the snow - as the forecast did not indicate any precipitation until later today. Sams was very busy and we picked up some printer ink (all printer ink is a rip off but less so at Sams), some coffee for the Keurig and a chicken and potato salad for dinner. Back out to dark skies and snow..but the temperature was 35 and we were on the way home. And the snow continued so we stopped to pick up the mail before going up our street. Honey did her usual wiggle and then out to potty. Back in to put "stuff" away and feed Honey. Then back out to play a bit - tire her out before afternoon nap time (for Honey, not us). And it was still snowing. And now, about an hour later it's still snowing. It's accumulating on the ground and trees but does not appear to be on the road and the temperature is 40. Well, we are done travels for the day and hopefully this will not amount to much.

I've made two really good meals so far this month. Yesterday I made chicken parm with a recipe I got from Penzeys, the spice people I get all my spices from (mail order). I've made this recipe before and B asked for it again (wasn't that nice!)  After pounding the chicken you flour it, egg bath then crumb it. The crumbs have not only Italian seasoning but also parm cheese and cayenne pepper and the hotness of the pepper gives it a really good flavor (not too hot - just a tingle on the back of your tongue). The chicken is then quickly fried in olive oil, removed and then I add spaghetti sauce. This time I added Mario Batali's marinara sauce. After scraping up the chicken fond from the pan bottom to incorporate it with the sauce the chicken goes back in. Then a sprinkling of parm and slices of fresh mozzarella are put on the chicken and the fry pan popped in the oven for about 20 minutes. Some pasta on the side and wow! Was really good!!  My second great meal was a recipe from The Chew. Last week they did cooking from various decades and from the 50s one of the recipes was Swedish Meatballs. I used that recipe. It called for 2 pounds of meat so I followed the recipe and after the meatballs were browned, I put 2/3 on a pan to cool and then freeze and continued with the recipe with the remainder. It was very good! B and I both enjoyed it served over noodles. They were the 2 "best" meals of the month, so far.

Snow has stopped and it's almost 5 - time for "drinks" and TV before dinner.
