Nancy, you will love this…. We were visited by a deer tonight.
The day was overcast and we got rain around 5:30 PM. I shut off the computers. The rain ended and then we ate dinner… and were finishing ice cream in the living room and looking at TV. And B said, “Look at the deer”, and I grabbed the camera and went outside.. And this is what I saw.
Nice way to end June.

The Day After the Rains
The access to the docks was under water yesterday - and now can be reached.
Yesterday the water was churning out of the pipe under the road. Today the area under water is wider but the water is calm.

Yesterday the water was racing down the road and down our property at this area at the end of the drive...today it's just damp
The last picture is from the dam lookout. I've taken it across to where the public launch is located. You normally can see the ramp...but not today. The Lake is still high but better than yesterday. The sun is out and looks like things are drying up!

Water around the property
The stream is incredibly full and has started another channel closer to the house. It’s still quite a way down the hill so we shouldn’t have any problems. The run off down the hill has created a stream but the storm ditch is carrying the water to the spill over - that happens to be on our property. This is worse than the hurricane we got three years ago and people who have been here for many years are saying it is as bad as they have seen it.
This is run off from the road down the hill
As you can see below, some people are ready for ANYTHING!
Flooding along the Lake
We woke to flooding all around the area. Rivers are expected to crest this afternoon into tomorrow. Old Forge, outside of Scranton, has gone over flood stage which is 11 feet - as of 11 PM they were at 12.5 feet. Tunkannock is projected to crest at over 17 feet - flood stage is 11 feet. Hawley is projected to crest at 15.7 feet with flood stage at 11. We were in Hawley this morning for breakfast. The river along Rt. 6 is over it’s banks and we were told almost up to the bridge. We took pictures around the Lake down by the cove where the boat is.
The path down to the Lake is now a stream and the access to the docks is under water. Here is Jeff where you would normally get on the docks. Where he is standing is NOT usually under water.
This is a picture from the Lake up to the houses. There are two houses on either side facing the Lake and this house has it's back to the Lake. This "stream" only shows up when we get a lot of rain and the amount of water is quite unusual!

A visit and more rain
It’s Tuesday afternoon and we are STILL having rain. We had friends visiting us this past week. Nancy and Carol worked with me and we haven’t seen them since last summer. They drove up from South Jersey Thursday and, while it rained, the skies cleared by dinner and we were able to eat outside. That was really nice! We had hoped to take them out on the boat Friday but rain stopped that. We did go to town to check out the antique shops… and managed to make several purchases. Then we went for pizza in Jessup. Saturday found us at the mall in Scranton checking out fabrics, books and clothes. Then on to eat at Cooper’s, a local seafood place. Back home for more talking…. And Nancy finished the quilt she was working on. They left Sunday morning - and it rained!
The rain has continued…we have had over 6 inches over the past several days. Our county is under a flood watch and there is flooding in the area. We, fortunately, are on high ground. I went out yesterday and took pictures of the stream at the edge of our property and the lake… Right now the noise of the stream is VERY loud and I can see it from the loft which you usually can’t due to the trees - but it’s over it’s bank and white from the speed of the water. They are calling for rain just about every day this week. Maybe July will be better.

Global Warming and all that goes bump in the night
It’s been a strange several days… cold and cloudy days. It started with me looking at SciFi network on TV… they had several “end of the world” movies back to back. The end almost came due to global warming, earthquakes, ice and finally, a BLACK HOLE. Well, there is some truth in it all…. I do believe in global warming and am concerned about the consequences. So then, we have been having very unusually cool weather for June. Overnight in the 40’s and days in the 60’s if we are lucky. The last nice day was over Memorial Day weekend. Then there are those “lovely” worms (tent caterpillars) that are all over despite the spraying we got last week. I then started reading Steven King’s “Cell”… talk about spooky!!! I’m not done but it is thought provoking. I don’t usually read King, but it was available at the library so…… and now I have to finish it!
All this end of the world stuff makes you stop and think. I even had a bad dream the other night dealing with things from the past (enough said). Normally we hang lose up here… but I woke with my heart beating hard…. And I got up early. No more dreams… must have been the spicy dinner.
We had chicken for dinner tonight. I mention that because for some reason I have not been able to do roast chicken - it is always under cooked. Today I used the convection oven… convection roast at 425 for 30 minutes then down to 325 for another 35... And it was done and GOOD. I also had stuffing…. A box mix I doctored up using the fresh spices I’m growing. So, it was a good meal. Yea new oven!!!
It’s supposed to get warmer this week… up to the 80’s by the weekend. Let’s hope it does get warmer!!

Thursday June 8 News
More rain…we have had rain for the past several days… and haven’t been out on the boat yet.
Yesterday it was really raining hard. We decided to go to Jessup for pizza… which was REALLY good!!! Brought some home, too. Today we got up to overcast skies and it drizzled off and on all day. We were going to work outside.. But with the weather I decided to concentrate on the inside. I had ironed yesterday while looking at the Food Network (Paula and “the hottie”) Today I cleaned bathrooms, did a load of laundry, vacuumed, and worked down in the family room. We are having company at the end of the month and we wanted to move things around downstairs. Interspersed in this was time out to read a book from the library… really GOOD. Jayne Ann Krentz “All Night Long” a recommended read!
Dinner was a concern… what to have. We got lobster the other day for an anniversary celebration (40 years) and I had some left. So I’m making quiche with the lobster. Thank heaven for refrigerated pie crust!!! It’s just about done. I’m learning how to use the convection oven… I often use regular oven but sometimes the convection part is best. Does anyone out there have a convection oven??? Thoughts would be appreciated!!

Thursday Thoughts
The start of June... I've been retired 10 months! WOW.... I wake up in the morning and look forward to the day! Breakfast out is a great treat... we really enjoy going out. That way B gets to eat what he wants and I get my one egg scrambled and whole wheat toast dry! (some days I get French toast)
I worked up in the loft.....boy, was it hot. The fan was on but it was still muggy and hot. It reminds us of why we have a computer downstairs in the family room... much cooler. I'm sure we will use that or I'll use my laptop, which I'm using now. I've been going through files and cleaning things out... and shreading papers. Just need to get organized. I'm making good progress!!! And I enjoy doing this 'cause it's at my speed (which may be fast and then again, may be slow). Today I got quite a bid done and my desk looks good!
B worked outside doing guy stuff... The plants that were put in the other day really look good. A nice start for June.
It rained again today... not as much as the other night. The lights did flicker again... will be glad when the generator gets hooked up... within the next week or so.
We had pasta for dinner... and I used fresh herbs to doctor up the Ragu sauce. I do enjoy having spices outside on the deck. We did this in Jersey also. I miss the fresh veggies I got on the way home from work! PA doesn't have the produce available when we drive around... at least not that we have found.
Well, have to finish cleaning up in the kitchen.
