How did it get to be Thursday??

Where did the week go? We really didn't do anything special due to the weather. B used the snow blower again today as we had about 3 inches more this morning. Most of it fell last night - I took Honey out around 10 and swept the steps. This morning only a bit more fell to just cover the steps.

I've been working on my computer and doing things around the house. Last night for dinner we had hot sausage sauted and then I added blanched escarole and pasta. Some freshly grated Parmesan on top and we had a really good dinner! Tonight I'm having a steak that I will pan sear and then put in the oven. Steamed cauliflower and broccoli and maybe baby Lima beans.

We did go to WalMart this morning and hit some good deals in the produce section. Sometimes they have great bargains. Today I got blueberries for $2 a pint container and pineapple for $1. It's heavy and just looks ripe so we will have that tomorrow. I also got a container of strawberries for $1. I looked them over carefully and the one I took looked great - I just cut up about half of them and sprinkled with sugar. They are on the counter getting juicy. I'm going to make sweet biscuits and have strawberry short cake for dessert.

Below are some pictures.
That is B's foot. They were in between the washer and dryer and the kitchen. B was just standing there and Honey plopped down next to him.
This morning for some reason, Honey decided to go into her crate. She has 2 crates - one in the bedroom and the other here, in the foyer. She had been playing fetch and I guess she needed a break. This is the first time she has chosen to go into the crate and lay down. She came out a little bit later.

A Snowy Day and a Deer Visit

This morning after breakfast (I cooked) we were just doing stuff in the living room. I was at the computer in the breakfast area and looked out to see some deer going down the road. There were maybe 7 of them and they were up by our neighbor's house when I spotted them. They usually go into the woods after they cross the road and then travel where ever they are going. Today, they trotted down the road in a line..pictures below...all except for one who got his/her signals mixed and headed up the hill. Or, maybe the deer was mad at his friends and didn't want to join in the fun. Fortunately, my FujiFilm pinepix was handy and I grabbed it and went to the window. Through the glass I took several pictures of the deer. They turned left at the end our our road out onto the highway. And again they stayed on the road and not into the woods. As I looked up the hill the single deer was walking up and out of sight.

More Snow

We got more snow this morning. When I put on the flood lights at 5:45 AM snow was falling. It was quite pretty - the ice from yesterday had not melted and the snow was clinging to the branches and covered the drive. Out we went...crunch, crunch. Poor Honey was really slipping and sliding but she managed to do her thing and back in we went. After she ate and B was up and about, I went back out with my camera. According to him, Honey wanted to come out so they joined me. Below are the pictures from this morning.

And below, Honey on the move!

Snow then Ice

The storms seem to be rolling in over the East coast rather regularly. Again, we expected a storm - snow. Then they said it would warm up and change to rain - OK. We did hit Shop Rite as they are having their can can sale and we expected to go later this week. Most of what I got was once a year stock up - canned tomatoes, soup, canned beans and such. We also got a rump roast for dinner. I picked up some blueberries as I figured we would be eating breakfast home. When I took Honey out at 10 there was no snow.

This morning it was snowing - maybe 2 inches on the ground (this was 5:30). We came in and I had coffee and she had breakfast. The temperatures was below freezing. Then, the snow started to change to sleet. Our next outing (B had taken her out after breakfast for both the paper and to potty) the snow was somewhat crusty. Then, the sleet changed to rain and the temperatures was at 32. And everything really iced over. The temperatures got up to 36 but the ice just stayed put. When we went out again the snow was very icy and Honey was clever, she kinda threw her paw down to go through the ice to get a grip. Potty was somewhat difficult as she slid - all for legs in different directions if you can imagine. Around 3 B went out to clean the car and steps. Thank you, B - the steps were covered with about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of ice. So were the trees, leaves, cars.... A car went up our road and almost fish-tailed into the gully right above our house. It's pretty but dangerous. A truck with a plow just went up with cinders and a while ago a Township truck went past on the township road throwing snow/ice off the road. Glad we are home!!  Some pictures below.
I took this from inside.

Same spot close up. You can see the ice on the wire of the lights

Honey Loves the Snow

Yesterday's snow provided a lot of fun for Honey. We were expecting snow and we got about 4 or 5 inches. The snow was fine - not good for making snowballs. B got the large snow blower out and cleared the driveway in the afternoon and I had swept the SUV off.

We generally get up around 6. It's dark out then and we put the front spot lights on when Honey takes her walk. For the past week or so, Honey and B go out after she has eaten to get the paper. It's delivered to the end of our driveway and they go down the stairs and she turns immediately to the left and runs down the drive. B follows at a fast pace - leash extended. She is eager to bring the paper in and I get her treat ready so she will drop the paper. Once in a while she gives it to me but mostly she drops it. Which is fine - at least she doesn't eat it! I tried to get some pictures of them but they were moving too fast for the setting I was using. I'm going to try my Flip Video and see if I can capture it that way.

B and Honey were out again for a walk around the house.

She enjoys getting on the deck but does not like to use the stairs. She won't go up or down the stairs in the house either.

She was interested in something under the snow.

As you can see, she is really growing.
Honey is somewhat like the little girl in the nursery rhyme. When she is good she is very, very good. And when she is bad, she is horrid! Well, the good is more often than the bad (bites and jumps) and she gets better every day!!

Honey Gets a Bath

We just gave Honey a bath…. We knew she needed one and we had purchased dog shampoo a while ago. Today was the day!!

We have 2 bathing options. Our main bathroom has a jetted tub which is deep. Difficult to lift a 30 pound dog out of and we knew she would be growing. Our master bath has a tiled shower with a short step up to get in – so that seemed like the ideal location. The shower head is detachable so getting her wet and rinsed SHOULD work. We had towels and I removed my jeans and socks and got in the shower with her (ahh the things we mom’s do). It took us a bit to figure out how to do this and Honey was not really happy about the entire thing. B poured shampoo into my hand after we wet her down and I lathered. Then I rinsed while he rubbed her to remove the soap. And we rinsed and rinsed. She was dirty! And after the first rinse she was OK with the bath but not really happy. I then gave her a squeeze up and down her body to get as much water off as I could and we both got towels and rubbed. And she wiggled and we rubbed and then she jumped out and shook. As she ran around the bedroom I wiped the floor and rinsed and cleaned the shower. All in all, it worked out. We then fed her (it was time) and took her out for a bathroom break (well worth the trip) and now she is chewing on one of her toys. We are pooped!

Wednesday at the Lake

Yesterday we took Honey to the vets. This was her second trip and I think we handled it better. We took the SUV and put a sheet down on the back seat and then one of her blankets. I sat in the back with her and had my seat belt on. She was on my right and part of the trip in my lap. She was nervous. So were we! You try to do everything the books say when you are with your dog but I found myself petting her and saying it's OK all the time. Well, I'm sure she picked up on our anxiety level. The visit went well. Some shots and her nails clipped. She is now 30.3 pounds and not overweight. She was good and the ride home was easier. She then slept after we got home - we all kinda had a bit of down time.

It's a nice day out but cold. Sun is shining and we had one or two snowflakes fall this morning but nothing now. B is in his chair looking at TV and I'm at the breakfast area table with Honey on the floor at my feet. Relaxing day!!
