Snow then ice

Snow, then ice, then cold... and the storm that hit us Wednesday had us housebound... NO BREAKFAST!! But, thanks to B snow blowing the drive and then last night cleaning the car off, we were able to scrape the ice off the windows and get out to breakfast this morning. And some of the stuff melted today even though temperatures were below freezing. And it's almost the end of January... and Spring is somewhere down the line... Hope you are all warm.

A Cold Day and Fun on the Wii

We expected it to be cold – but not this cold! Earlier this week it got into the 40’s and the snow was melting and we got the car washed and it stayed that way. Then, yesterday we awoke to temperatures in the 30’s which was the high for the day. By last evening the temperatures were really dropping and by late last night it was single digits. So, when we got up this morning we expected cold. And boy, did we get it! On the way to breakfast it was minus four. And on the way home it was MINUS NINE… and we wondered if the car thermometer was accurate – yea, as we passed banks and such they also agreed it was that cold!!

We really didn’t do much today. We had company for dinner last night and so the house is CLEAN… and so I really just relaxed. Even took a nap, which I never do. But we were up later than usual and I was tired, and things were clean so I took a nap. That’s really nice! A good thing to do and I then had a piece of bread (I had made a loaf in the bread maker) and then started playing with the Wii. Now we got the Wii a while ago but I got stuck on Super Mario Galaxy and that has been all I’ve been playing. But we have Wii Fit and some other board exercise activities so I have been going back and playing them. Then I just got Rayman Raving Rabbids. This is the stupidest game….and it’s fun!!!! So I spent this afternoon attempting to play it… and I did learn things and giggled and yelled and such. I’m not very good at it but it’s fun! We have always enjoyed doing games. We started with our friends Emily and Sam with Frogger and Pac Man. Yea, that long ago… back in the 70’s. Then we did several other systems. I really haven’t been into gaming for a while… and then we went and got the Wii. And I’m really enjoying it. I spend more time on Super Mario Galaxy but at times I find the old thumb joints hurt from frantically trying to do the tasks Mario has. It’s fun and really nice to have the time to “play!!! Retirement is fun, too.

Will the Video Work???

I have been struggling to get a video posted. I did one before but that was dumb luck. The Canon camera we have records videos in the MOD format and Google and other programs don't recognize it. Well, trying to convert to the MPG format has been a lesson in frustration. I think I have it figured out... so I'm going to see. If it works, I took this video from downstairs in my "library" area where I have a computer. I look out onto the back patio and then out to the woods. What do you think???

Yesterday's snow

Yesterday we got snow...lots of snow. I don't believe we were to get much but by yesterday late afternoon we had about 8 inches. The picture above was taken at the back of the house looking up. The trees were really lovely. The picture below is taken from the same spot but looking down. This solar garden light stays up all year round and will give you a good idea how much we got. Thank goodness for the snow blower. The snow was very light and B took the blower out twice. The car was relatively easy to clean off and we just kept sweeping the steps down to the driveway. Staying in didn't matter and we enjoyed watching the Washington concert in the afternoon.

Winter at the Lake

The pictures I’ve posted are from this morning. I didn’t stay out too long taking pictures as I was without gloves. It was a pretty morning and with the cold, a good morning to be inside looking out!

We anticipated snow this morning and got it….about an inch. Our road was plowed by the time we headed out to breakfast and as the snow was light, B just swept it off the car with the broom (I was inside still getting ready). Right now I’m sitting down in my “library” looking out over the patio into the woods. The trees are still covered with a thin blanket of snow which falls when the wind blows or a squirrel scampers over the branches.

For the past several days we have seen ice fishing on the Lake. This morning at breakfast time there was no one out there – perhaps at 10 degrees it was too cold or maybe just too early. We are bracing for colder temperatures as the Alberta Clipper heads our way. We won’t have the minus 40 degree temperatures they talked about this morning on TV but we should be below zero and not above single digits for the next several days. A good time to stay inside!
