Boy, is it raining

Boy, we are really having rain! The day started out warm and went to hot. We have been working outside the past week or so. Start of summer party here on Sunday and just the general get ready for outdoor living things that need to be done. Bern has been getting the fountain on the porch working. Today he located the leak that caused it to need water on a too regular basis. He already fixed the fountain we have in the garden by finding and purchasing a new pump. The other day I cleaned the middle deck. Thanks to a scrub brush and Murphy's soap I scrubbed the wood and then cleaned the furniture. I had planted flowers last week (I've given up on veggies) and so now the deck looks great!!!
######STORM NOTICE#### we just lost power for a second or so.. the generator didn't come on but the TV is really screwed up.....ahhhhh now it's on again. (THANK GOODNESS) the rain comes in spurts... started out with big drops... then a down pour. We shut the sliding glass doors as the rain was bouncing off the deck. Then it tapered off.... so OK... then it started again even harder. I shut the windows in the loft as it was bouncing off the roof and into the loft... and again shut the sliders. Wind was heavy but didn't seem like trees were coming down. Still, we keep an eye out... and it seems cooler which is nice. This spring we have been either HOT or COLD and there has been no warm...
And so back to dinner and I'll have to check it and do the salad. It was really a nice day. We are ready for summer... and so busy. Don't know how we found time to work.... (well, really, I know, I just never got the cleaning done)
Looking forward to the family on Sunday!!!!!!

A Nice Day

What a nice day! We both got a lot of things done around the house. Mr. B. washed and then waxed my red car. Thank you Bern!!!! It really looks so nice. He also got out the blower and cleaned the driveway of all those whirrly seed things that are falling from the trees.

I'm thinking that we are at the end of the spring mess.... pollen, junk from the trees, more junk from the trees and more pollen. We have both been clearing our throats. But we continue to say the irritation is not as bad as in Jersey... so we just deal with it.

I spent the morning doing things around the house. Just that normal stuff that one does - laundry, straightening and such. And I was on the computer - I'm into Farming or Face Book. And then there was the Sunday paper.

I then spent a lot of time this afternoon working on deciding how to plant the stuff we bought. We are scaling back. I have tried for the past several years, to plant in pots on our deck. The effort is not worth the results. So, this year I decided to just go for the herbs and flowers. That meant less pots which gave me the opportunity to reduce the number of pots I have. I'm sharing with family and friends. Anyway, today I moved stuff around and then moved it again. I decided to do all green pots as I had more of them than the terracotta pots. I had lucked into a SALE at Home Depot (I think three years ago) and bought up a large quantity of pots and a very very small price. And now I'm reducing the number. I'm still planting herbs. I've eliminated all veggies... I'll purchase locally... and am planting flowers instead. So today I moved stuff, cleaned the soil, added soil to the planters I'm keeping from the ones I'm giving away. And it was a good afternoon and I'm pleased with what I did.

So now to dinner. On the grill. Last night we had hamburgers on the grill. Tonight we are having pork cubes marinated in a Mo Jo marinate I purchased. I'm adding onions and two Minnie peppers... (gotta get more peppers). With that we will have the rest of yesterday's Cole slaw (home made) and piorgies with onions and sour cream. Should be good. Well, gotta go turn on the grill and get started.

Like I said, it was a nice day!!

Boy, It's HOT

How did it get to be May?? And why is it so hot?? Well, I understand the weather map but I mean why so hot at the start of May? We are in the 80's - both inside and out. Yesterday we worked on the garage. Now a garage is supposed to hold cars... we use ours for STUFF. And yesterday we moved a lot of the stuff out to organize/clean/trash it. And we did a good job. The garage is cleaner/neater. B blew the leaves and such out. We threw some stuff out and also put some things aside to give away or donate. And we put things back neatly so it looks really great! A good days work.

I have also been working at weeding stuff out in the house. In addition to going through my clothes and getting rid of things I haven't worn, I've been cleaning out the heater room which is where i store out of season things. Again, if i haven't used it in FIVE YEARS the odds are I'm not going to!! So, out it goes. And in the kitchen I've been moving into the summer kitchen. I've got most of my pantry food in storage containers both to keep it fresh and to make sure the critters (think mice that are NOT cute) that are a way of life up here. I'm labeling things so I know what is in that large caning jar.

Tonight is a "summer meal" chicken salad on greens with some potato chips. We got a chicken at Sam's the other day and this was a good way to use it and not heat things up. It's too hot to cook inside and the grill just wasn't the answer.

I also have to say that I watched the movie 2012. That thing was too spooky for words. Talk about the end of the world. Well, I stopped it before it was over. I mean, the family is in this jet plane on their way to China to take off on a space ship and the world is crumbling around them. Now you know that we would be the ones they showed falling into the big gaps in the earth (which seemed to be doomed at that point). So, I turned it off. The modern age.. how wonderful. You can stop the end of the world with the push of a button. Enough... lets hope it was just a movie.

We did look at "UP" today. It was sad at parts but good. And I was excited over Snow White!!

We are good... and so glad we are. Hope you are doing well.
